Meeting with Green MEP, Gwendoline Delbos-Corfield

On Friday evening 23rd September, we had the opportunity to meet Gwendoline Delbos-Corfield, a member of European Parliament and member of Greens/EFA in the European Parliament. Gwendoline is from France, where abortion on demand was recently extended to 14 weeks gestation. She was (rightly) shocked at our lack of access past 9 weeks 6 days, and lack of any access in the Western Trust.

We told Gwendoline and her team about the range of activism we currently do; covering our campaigning from the Repeal the 8th referendum, the decriminalisation campaign in the North, our political lobbying ahead of our most recent election, our lobbying of the Western Health and Social Care Trust to reinstate EMA services and the work we do with the public to debunk myths and stigma about abortion.

At Derry for Choice we know the fight for bodily autonomy is a global one. It was great to meet with Gwendoline and her team, as international solidarity is essential in this fight. We look forward to continued engagement with politicians and groups from other countries, and continue to fight for a world where abortion is free, safe, legal, local and globally accessible

We’d also like to thank Ryan Harling for capturing the photos of our conversations!
